How I Take Photos

In my last post I mentioned posting about the items I use when taking photos.

This is my camera. It was my gift to myself for graduating college and I love it. It’s a Canon 6D Mark II. My primary lens is a 24-105mm.

I often have ideas and they swim around in my head until I do them. When I first tried indoor photography, I used huge soft lights. It took lots of adjustment to get them positioned so the lighting looked good enough. Now I use this. It’s an 18 inch Neewer Ring Light. I don’t know much about them outside of the one I own. It allows for adjustments so I can change the intensity of the light. It casts a nice color too. I’ve used my phone instead of my camera numerous times, and the photos are still clear and sharp.

Kinetic sand is the best! I have a clear sheet that I put on my work area. I wrote a post on my old blog years ago about it. I needed to buy another bag of it to fit enough for my arena.

All Together….

Put together, this is how my set up looks.

  1. Thank you very much for writing again about the type of camera that you use. I think you had mentioned it before, but I forgot. I had not seen a lighting ring- never even knew it existed. I can see how useful it must be. It is really hard to get good indoor photos, especially if you don’t have a lot of windows or live in a part of the country where it is dark all Winter. Thank you for sharing!
