Alt Text-ing

Thank you to Maeve King-Devery for making this and raising awareness. Everyone should be able to participate in the hobby, and I’ll do better with adding alt text in the future. Thanks for allowing me to share this!

Alt text describes the contents or function of an image on a page, and is what a screen reader uses to decipher an image. by adding alt text to your image, anyone who uses a screen reader will be able to enjoy your content! The Best Customs Contest and the leadup to Breyerfest is an exciting time, but blind and visually-impaired hobbyists can feel left out when content is being posted to social media without alt text or image descriptions.

Text that says "Alt text: Let's make the hobby more accessible." Below the text is a picture of a Freddy resin (a grinning Black Forest Horse stallion sculpted by Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig and painted by Heather Bullach to a very deep flaxen chestnut) with a little speech bubble that says "accessibility is totally rad".
Text that says "Alt text: what is it?" and continues, "alt text describes the contents or function of an image on a page, and is what a screen reader uses to decipher an image. by adding alt text to your image, anyone who uses a screen reader will be able to enjoy your content! the Best Customs Contest and the leadup to Breyerfest is an exciting time, but blind and visually-impaired hobbyists can feel left out when content is being posted to social media without alt text or image descriptions." In the upper right hand corner, just poking out is the head of a Maxxixe resin, sculpted by Morgen Kilbourn and painted by Karen Zorn to a bay sabino.
Text that says "how do I add it on FB (desktop)? Step 1: when uploading a post, click on the 'edit' button that comes up when you mouse over an image." The text is accompanied by a screenshot with an arrow pointing to the correct location.
Text that says "how do I add it on FB (desktop)? Step 2: go down to 'Alternative text', make sure you click the button for custom alt text, and then write your alt text! Make sure to write alt text for each image you're uploading." The text is accompanied by a screenshot with an arrow pointing to the correct location, and at the bottom there is an example of alt text for the image I am pretending to upload: "Freddy (Herz Freude) is a Black Forest Horse stallion resin sculpted by Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig. He has a long curly mane and tail and he is flipping his top lip up in a Flehmen response, which is what horses do when they smell something interesting. He is painted to a very dark contrast-y flaxen chestnut by Heather Bullach; his body is a deep chestnut, almost black, and his mane and tail are silvery."
Text that says "how do I add it on FB (mobile)? Step 1: once you have added your image, click on the three dots in the right hand corner of the image. Step 2: click on 'edit alt text'." The text is accompanied by screenshots with arrows pointing to the correct locations. There is a little image in the bottom right hand corner of an Amarant resin sculpted by Maggie Bennett and painted to a buckskin by Patrycja Zaleska-Rutkowska."
Text that says "how do I add it on FB (mobile)? Step 3: add your alt text!" There is a screenshot of the alt text field, with an example for the image I am pretending to upload: "Bask is an Arabian stallion resin sculpted by Kathi Bogucki and paitned to black by Nikki Button. He is rearing up on his back legs and has a swishing tail and pricked ears."
Text that says "how do I add it on IG? Step 1: when uploading a post, click on 'Advanced Settings'. Step 2: scroll to the bottom and click 'write alt text'". The text is accompanied by screenshots with arrows pointing to the correct locations.
Text that says "how do I add it on IG? Step 3: write your alt text! Be descriptive but succinct - if you want to add more detail, you can add it in the caption. make sure to add alt text for each slide/photo you're uploading!" There is a screenshot of the alt text field, with a little image of a Bask resin sculpted by Kathi Bogucki and painted by Nikki Burron to black. At the bottom, there is more text, an example for the image I am pretending to upload: "Maxxixe de Barrios is a resin sculpted by Morgen Kilbourn of a standing Spanish stallion. His head is down and he has a flowing forelock and thick curly tail. He has been painted to a bay sabino by Karen Zorn, and has lots of delicate brushstrokes and hairing detail."
Text that says "accessibility is rad! every hobbyist deserves to feel included and welcomed in the hobby. it's quick and easy to add alt text to our images, and it makes the hobby that much more accessible and inclusive to our fellow hobbysits with vision impairments or who are blind. please share and spread the word, and please take the time to add alt text to your images!" Below the text are two Oliver resins facing each other. Oliver is a pony foal resin sculpted by Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig and he has his ears back and his tongue sticking out. The one on the left is a bay, painted by Berit Anderson, and the one on the right is a black extended blanket appaloosa, painted by Tracy (Eilers) Calamar. The bay has a speech bubble with a symbol indicating disability, a wheelchair, followed by a question mark. The black appaloosa has a speech bubble with the same wheelchair symbol followed by an exclamation mark. At the bottom is a watermark for @otherworld.stables.
