Police Horse

One of the coolest parts about Breyerfest is the wide variety of exhibits within the Kentucky Horse Park. This year I wandered into the Mounted Police Barn.

I’ve wanted to make a police horse tack set for a long time, but getting good consistent reference photos can be hard!

I tried to take a lot of pictures from different angles.

The game of being a tack maker is reference photos. Hopefully these help!

Tack of the Expo

There were numerous types of tack at the PA Horse Expo.

A lot of the saddles I saw were more western and english.

Here’s a saddle seat saddle.
Then I started to see other types of tack like this racing saddle.
Here’s a line of Australian saddles that I forgot to come back to take close photos of!
And then I wandered to the DP Saddlery booth. Pat told me they’d be there and to take pictures. So I did.
There were English-type saddles with tooling. Isn’t this dressage saddle pretty?
Detail shot of the tooling.
The saddles then bridged away from english and western. DP Saddlery had a bunch of Baroque type of saddles on display. Some had lots of tooling.
Others did not.
I tried to take plenty of detail shots of them.

Making a Baroque saddle has always seemed elusive to me because they’re so different from other types of saddles.

But these pictures helped break it down into containable chunks. I can’t say this is something I’d tackle in the near future, but at least I have some references!

Because I finally saw some in person.

There were also headstalls.
And here’s a Mosquero. It connects to the browband of the bridle.
I hope you enjoyed the different types of tack! I know I did. 🙂

Winging It!

It takes great skill to mix up show dates. It takes even more skill to accidently be a week early instead of being a day late.
That was me, last week. Woke up, and was about to leave and realized that I was a week early. Lucky Me! The show is tomorrow, and I am so winging it. I did make something new, but the past week has been readingsbookIdon’tcareabout which means avoidbookandreadmorefunthings and tests. So The show I thought was last week is tomorrow! It’s near me(like 15 minutes tops from my house) so I get to sleep in, in terms of getting up for shows.
Other cool things happened last week.
Yard sale season is coming to a close so since I didn’t have a show to go to, my mom and I decided do yard sales. Before going to yard sale, Mom convinced me to go to the gym. Yup. That happened. I walked and read. Multitasking.
One of the last yard sales had a saddle. Which is unusual for a yard sale, and I’d never seen this type of saddle before.
I bought a bunch of craft stuff at the yard sales. I got nutcrackers for potential jumps. The cross stitching hoops were a steal as was the large bag of white felt.

Creepy dolls past their prime equal perfect zombies. Because zombie toddlers are the right thing to make.
An author was giving away advanced reader copies of her novel, so of course I had to grab one. She signed it for me too!
The most exciting thing I bought was this. Coca-Cola salt and pepper shakers. They’re classic/pebble sized but will be a cute jump.
Well, my cat is trying to lay on my keyboard, and I should get some sleep, so have a great weekend everyone!

Back To School-ish

Today, my mom, sister, cousin, and great aunt went to Carlisle, PA for two reasons. The first being my cousin had her driver’s test and apparently Carlisle has a reputation for being one of the easier places in PA to pass the driver’s test. I took it in Harrisburg, so I can’t really compare the two. But she did pass!
The second reason was to go to a tack shop named Gallop Country. College is right around the corner. In less than a week it all begins again, and with that the Equestrian Club will be starting up again .When my mom was a state trooper, she would stop in the plaza because the Chinese restaurant next door has great food.
Anyways, I needed clothes for the club. I’ve owned my boots and helmet since going to horse camp with Madison of Gyrfalcon Studios when we were ten or eleven. Neither of those are ‘showy’ so I needed to get breeches, boots, and a helmet.

I’m excited about my show stuff, but I also enjoyed looking around at the saddles. The tack shop had various types of saddles.
There were Western and English saddles.

But the one that really caught my eye was this Australian saddle. I loved the tooling on it!
I took some detail shots of the front,
seat,

and back.

Have a great night everyone!
