Guest Tutorial | How To Make Boots

Natalia of Midnightline Studio posted a photo tutorial on Facebook, and I asked if it was okay for me to share it on my blog. I think boots are a fun challenge. There’s a fine line of making them realistic and functional. I thought this was really helpful, so hopefully you will too. Thanks again for allowing me to share this!
Here’s a photo progression of her boot making process, with text by me.

First you need supplies, which includes leather

 and a pattern.

 Cut out the boots.

Cut out embellishments.
Line them with your liner leather.

So cool!

Stitch mark and shape.

Fold the liner leather in half, and glue it along the outside of the boot to make it look padded.

Next are the straps. Cut out and punch a hole.

Attach to a strap of lace. To make the closure piece, it looks like nail shaped and cut?

Attach the closure.

Line the buckle with the liner leather.

Finished!

Guest Post| A Year of Art

Madison of Gyrfalcon Studios, who has been on this blog numerous times challenged me to a cool 2016 resolution and asked if I was interested in sharing it (which was an absolute yes!). Thanks again Madison!

A Year Of Art

Hi and happy New Year from Gyrfalcon Studios!

I have made several resolutions this year but the one I want to share with is art related. Sometimes when I’m at college, it is hard to make my own art. I just do the projects assigned to me and that causes a minor burnout. So this year I’m challenging myself to create at least one piece of art for myself each month. And I’m inviting you to join me!

Each month has a theme. Where you take the theme is up to you:

January – The Ancient World
February – Dreamlike
March – New Life
April – Growth
May – Animals
June – Mythology
July – Feathers
August – The Future
September – Knowledge
October – Remembrance
November – The Modern World
December – Winter

Every month I will post a brief introduction to the theme and some examples that I feel fit the theme (or in the case of January, some art from the cultures being explored). These pieces can be created in any medium, from colored pencil to text. I will be posting my in-progress and finished pieces on here and on instagram using the hashtag #GFSYearofArt. If you participate and post your piece on instagram tag me @gyrfalconstudios and/or use #GFSYearofArt so I can see what you’ve created! I may even repost my favorites.

Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome…these the first few names that popped into my head when I think of the ancient world. These civilizations have a rich history and culture (I’m personally partial to the myths of these civilizations). Most have also produced a rich collection of art pieces that can be seen in museums around the world.

Some examples of art from these cultures –

Egyptian
Greek
Roman

Some ideas to inspire you:

  • Create a model/drawing of a building based on Greek and/or Roman architecture
  • Illustrate a myth
  • Create your own cuneiform seal
  • Create your own hieroglyphic tablet
Read some myths, look at some art, learn some new historical facts and then create your piece! The sky is really the limit.

Guest Post | RIP Surfer Dude

My friend, Madison, posted this post today, and I asked her if I could post it here. Madison has her own blog,Gyrfalcon Studio. I’d been trying to think of a way to write this, and Madison wrote it better!

A few days ago, fans of Chincoteague Ponies got word that one of the most popular stallions in the herd, Surfer Dude, had passed. It had been suspected for a while because he didn’t come in during the Spring round up. This stallion has contributed so much to the breed.

To pay tribute to this beautiful guy there is a movement to get him immortalized as a Breyer Horse. Please email Breyer or use their contact form to help express interest in this idea. Collectors have wanted a new Chincoteague Pony for years and it would be amazing if it was Surfer Dude.
To check out more about this amazing breed look up I Love Chincoteague Ponies on Facebook.

Guest Post | How To Make Neck Rosettes

I am addicted to Facebook, but there are perks in being addicted. There are plenty of Facebook groups for model horses and today I was scanning before class and there was a cool how-to post and asked if it could be shared. This was written by Heather Kelly (Gill) and was first published in Model Horse Performance years ago. Hope you enjoy!

Also, there’s 7 days left in the saddle giveaway!
