Mini Books

Last night I started making miniature books. These are the ones I made.
From left to right: The Fault In Our Stars, Paper Towns, Black Beauty, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and ,Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
After finishing the saddle I wanted to do something fast. So miniature books happened.
Over the past couple of months I’ve pinned various book jackets to my pinterest board called Miniature Projects. Some  books I found with a google image search. Here’s the links to the ones on pinterest.
The one that got me really excited I found the other day. I decided to give it a try.
I scaled the covers down to be 1:9 scale. Because the Harry Potter book covers were the hardback dust jackets instead of paperback, I decided to make them into miniature hardbacks. I used thin cardboard.
After I cut the covers out, I glued small packets of white paper inside and modge podged the cover to seal it. Once set, I could open them up like real books, but the pages are blank.
I really do like how they came out. The Harry Potter book covers were a little blurry, so I only made 3 of the 7 books. I have all of the *real sized* ones and have most in hardback, so I think I’ll try scanning my copies and making new miniature ones.
 Size comparison.
Here are some of the miniature books with their larger versions!

These were fun to make, and I can’t wait to make some more. 🙂

Tack Trunk

While working on the saddle, I also worked on a tack box for myself.
Last year I made a tack box. It was fun to make.

Those were some of my tack pieces too. A year can make a huge difference!

I bought this box a while ago and let it sit. It got lost in the craft room until this past week. The other box had become way too small for my saddles. I wanted to have a better organizing system for my saddles too, so it seemed perfect for me to find it.

I redid the handle and stained it.
I bought this cool steam-punk themed scrapbook paper during the summer and decided to use it.
Finished product. It has plenty of space, and I’m trying to decided if I want to add another row for saddles or not. There’s plenty of space for bridles too.

Summer Saddle

The weather in PA has official turned summer-like. It’s been humid and hot, so that means staying inside or swimming. I consider summer to be summer the moment I finish school. My mom starts calling summer summer when the weather gets hot, so for her it’s now summer .
I finished this saddle pretty much (minus piping). I really like how the skirts came out on this!
I also wrote a collaborative post on Madison’s blog that deals with various customizing mediums and the pros and cons of different ones. The post is on Gyrfalcon Studios

The Art of Business Without Really Trying

1.What Do You Mean You Aren’t Like Amazon?

If a person doesn’t respond after 5 minutes of sending a private message or email, it doesn’t mean he or she has bad business practices. It means the seller has other things going on that are stopping him or her from responding. Yes, technology is here, and many have smart phones in their hands. That doesn’t mean everyone is online all the time. Waiting for a couple of hours or a couple of days is not an act of nature. It’s called patience.

Patience looks much better than recieving a message and 3 minutes saying, ” And I know u r not on your phone 24/7 but when your talking to potential business you should make an effort to respond.” No. Just no.

Once you leap into social media, there’s no going back.

2. You Said No So That Means You Hate My Soul

If the seller says no to a trade, don’t take it personally. It could mean he or she is just not interested. That’s all. It may be something beautiful and the seller saying no is not diminishing the fact that it is, in fact, pretty. Buying and selling isn’t monopoly filled with unlimited fake money, land, and ribbons.

3. Two’s A Company, Three’s a Crowd

When selling and buying, it should be between the buyer and seller. If the sale is not going the way one wants, don’t try to create an army of people to contact the seller and tell them why such a transaction should happen . Sometimes a sale simply can not happen, and forcing it helps neither party.
The Chronicles Of Narnia turned ten this year. I was in 3rd grade, and this was always my favorite scene.

4. Plastic Ponies Can Bring Joy, But Also Facepalms

Models horses are fun. Really, they are. Some play with them while others like to show. Both are great. Because there are so many sources of fun for models, each collector has details they want and details they don’t. A  performance shower may want an all around performance model. A person who plays with their model may want a model with four straight legs. Nothing’s wrong with either preference.  That’s why models are fun. The issue comes when one person doesn’t like another person’s preference. That’s when instead of a facepalm, a facehoof occurs.

5. Waiting For A Hero

Dealing business is for mature people. Maturity has nothing to deal with age though. A ten year old can be more mature than someone ten or fifteen years his or her senior. If you can’t handle it, get a parent involved. It’s better to get a parent involved and have him or her do it for you. It stops headaches and it make you look better. What can be better than that?
Hyperbole And A Half  is hilarious. Just saying.
The Art of Business Without Really Trying starts with little things. But important things. Starting with these steps can help stop tension.
Hopefully you enjoyed this! 🙂
