March Reading Wrap-Up

In March, I read or listened to a few books. Here they are!

It was an audiobook-heavy month. It isn’t because of a lack of physical books *stares at the mountain of books that will one day crush me.* I listen to books through Libro.fm. They’re fantastic and I’ve loved watching the company grow since its inception. They’re a nice alternative to Audible because you can choose an indie bookstore to receive a portion of your sales. They give me access to a select number each month, so they’re a fantastic company to partner with! Libraries are also a fantastic way to listen to audiobooks too.

New Reads

Lonely For You Only by Monica Murphy

Genre: Romance – New Adult

I’ve read a few Monica Murphy novels —if you like Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series, you’ll probably like the cadence and voice of this.

Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

Genre: Romance—Rom Com

This kept popping up in various reading groups, so I decided to try it when I received an ARC. It’s an interesting concept. A serial killer romance is quite an elevator pitch. The suspension of belief was a struggle for me, and while some parts had me laughing, I still had to push through to the end.

Black Girl You Are Atlas

Black Girl You Are Atlas by Renee Watson

Genre: YA Poetry

I’ve enjoyed the Renee Watson books I’ve read, so a book of poems narrated by her? I was here for it. The autobiographical novella was nice to listen to.

Celebrity Nation by Landon Y. Jones

Genre: Nonfiction

This was a fun pop culture history book. You traced the concept of fame through recorded history and how it impacts the present.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

Genre: Paranormal Romance

I’m hoping that werewolves and vampires make a comeback. I’ve always enjoyed the various ways that authors world-build with these creatures. So this was a fun read.

Wild Spaces by S.L Coney

Genre: Horror- Coming of Age

This novella was interesting to listen to. It’s a coming-of-age horror where a boy’s family moves as a cohesive group until his grandfather comes to visit. As tensions grow, an ominous feeling seeps into the very fabric of the family that is as turbulent as the nearby sea. I love atmospheric horror even if there’s a death that made me 👀.

Narcas audiobook

Narcas by Deborah Bonello

Genre: Nonfiction

It is an insightful book about the world of cartels through the stories of prominent women within it.

I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

Genre: Memoir

When this first came out, I immediately downloaded it. I listened to a tiny bit of it before drifting away to another book. After watching Quiet On Set, I decided to listen to it again. I started and didn’t want to stop listening to it. It was compelling and heartbreaking. One of my favorite reads of the month.

Genre: Horror

The Daughter of Auschwitz by Tova Friedman

Genre: Memoir

Tova Friedman is one of the youngest survivors of Auschwitz. This memoir not only follows Tova’s life but also digs into the Holocaust and subsequent events in the 20th century. Both biographical and historical, this is one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. I was lucky enough to meet Tova last year and have a copy of her book signed to me!

Rereads

A Court Of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas

Genre: Fantasy

I decided to reread these. Not for a particular reason, but they’re one of my favorites. When I reread them, I generally just stick to the original trilogy and not the bridge novel or the spinoff series.

That’s the wrap-up of what I read for the month. What did you read? Did you have a favorite?
