Lava Man

I was excited to see the residents of Old Friends, but Lava Man was probably the horse I was most excited for.

I never followed his racing career—I took notice of him afterwards. Being a gelding, his racing career didn’t hinder on what he could do in the breeding shed. So after beginning his racing career in 2003, he raced his last one in 2009 after 47 starts. I enjoyed reading about his second career as a stable pony.

He was retired to Old Friends and arrived well before Breyerfest. When we came to his pasture, the gelding was taking a nap.

The shaking of carrots caused him to raise his head, but he ultimately teetered back over.

After some coaxing Lava Man came over to greet everyone.

Mackenzie and I both took pictures with him.

He was a sweet horse. As we ended our tour I saw him cantering in his pasture and managed to get a shot of it. He’s 22 and looks fantastic!
